The South Bend Tribune from South Bend, Indiana (2024)

1 22 South Bend Tribune, Thursday, PSC hearings to center on rate increase INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct hearings next month on Public Service Indiana's request for a $105 million emergency rate increase. An attorneys conference is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in Room 907 of the State Office Building. The formal presentation of evidence will begin at 9 a.m.

Monday, Feb. 1 13 at the same location. The PSC will travel to Terre Haute Thursday, Feb. 16, to get customer comment on the 14 percent increase sought by the state's largest electric company. The hearing will start at 5 p.m.

in the auditorium of Terre Haute South High School PSI filed for the emergency rate increase Monday after announcing it was pulling out of the Marble Hill nuclear project. The company said that 1 unless the rate increase 1 is granted by March 1, service may suffer. In other action Wednesday, the PSC approved a $16 million rate increase for the Indiana Gas a move that will add $4.50 a month to the bill of a residential customer who heats with gas. The rate increase was $6 million less than the $22 million Indiana Gas had requested. Although the increase will raise overall revenues by 3.74 percent, residential customers will pay 7 percent more for the fuel.

That's because the PSC order er restructures Indiana Gas' rate schedule more closely track the cost of providing service to the various customer classes. Under the order, the rates paid by large volume and industrial customers actually will drop as the subsidy of residential rates diminishes. Indiana Gas serves 313,600 customers in 46 Indiana counties. Its last rate increase was granted in October 1982. Mae Hildebrand dies; services on Saturday PLYMOUTH Services for Mrs.
