As I said earlier, when it comes to the law of chastity, it is better to prepare and prevent than it is to repair and repent.

Living the law of chastity also means that we refrain from sexual sin. When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments, there was no misunderstanding the Lord's standard regarding moral purity: “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Ex. 20:14).

In the history of the Church, there have been some married saints who lived lives of “continence,” not engaging in sexual intimacy, because they felt God inviting them to this lifestyle.

Researchers have found that chastity before marriage offers many benefits, including a decreased chance of psychological damage from expressing intimacy without commitment, freedom from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and unwanted pregnancies, and an increase in marital stability and satisfaction.

So answering the question, virginity is about whether the person has sexual intercourse or not. Chastity on the other hand, is about the person's way of life that involves honesty, compassion, kindness and in general moral excellence. Yes, the former is about sexual intercourse, the latter is about moral conduct.

Thus when Paul speaks of us as "virgins", he is referring to our justified sinlessness or purity. And when he speaks of us as "chaste virgins", he is talking about the maintaining of that purity through washing and sanctification. Our becoming virgins, therefore, is a historic event in our life.

If you describe a person or their behaviour as chaste, you mean that they do not have sex with anyone, or they only have sex with their husband or wife.
